Helping wash the dishes during my homestay in Malawi. Women spend much of the day cooking and then cleaning up. It’s a reminder that it’s a lot more time consuming to do dishes when you can’t just turn on a faucet. #Malawi #empowerwomen

I loved meeting community midwives in Malawi. When I asked them why they chose to become midwives they said they wanted to save women in their community. One young woman, however, had a bigger idea. She said, “I want to save women across Malawi!” #Malawi #empowerwomen #bethechange

Patricia is holding a better future for her family in her hands. Last season she was selected to plant a new groundnut seed. It produced 4X the harvest of the old seed! She plans to use the proceeds from the next harvest on school fees for her children and to buy some pots to grow her business.
Women show me a cash flow tree, which shines some transparency on how family finances work. Through gender exercises with their husbands, these women are combating entrenched gender norms. #Malawi #Africa #empowerwomen #bethechange
First stop on my trip to Malawi with our foundation CEO Sue Desmond-Hellmann: Dimi Village. I met with women farmers to learn about their lives, their hopes, and the challenges they face. CARE is teaching them new techniques to improve their crop yields, which is building their confidence and helping them provide foe their families. #Malawi #Africa #empowerwomen #bethechange
